Aluminum wire in our homes

Solid strand aluminum wire was utilized predominantly in the 1960's & 70's, at a time when copper supply was short of The demand. Multi strand aluminum wire has since been replaced in home construction by copper wiring, except in special circumstances.

Why is all of this important?

Because some experts believe multi strand aluminum wire to represent as much as 50 times the risk of fire associated with it, as opposed to copper wire!

Most of the problems stem from the connections, and acceptable repairs can be made to alleviate the risk.
